Important side-effects

Memory problems, confusion, delirium, psychosis.

Dry mouth, constipation, ileus, urinary retention.

Tachycardia.

Should not be given to patients with untreated closed angle glaucoma.

Recommended dose

Start with a single daily dose of 0.5-1 mg at bedtime.

Titrate after effect and tolerance. Some patients may require up to 4-6 mg per day.

Renal impairment

Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.

Hepatic impairment

Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
