Injectable AEDs
1. Fosphenytoin
Status epilepticus:
15-20 mg PE/kg IV (PE = phenytoin equivalent)
Non-emergent administration:
10-20 mg PE/kg IV or IM. Infusion rate should not exceed 150 mg PE/minute.
2. Valproate
Status epilepticus:
25mg/kg IV. Infusion rate should not exceed 300mg/min. Reduce dose to 10mg/kg if the patient is already treated with valproate.
Non-emergent administration:
No loading dose. Administer 1000-2500 mg/day in 1-3 divided doses.
3. Levetiracetam
Status epilepticus:
1000-4500 mg IV
Non-emergent administration:
No loading dose. Administer 1000 mg/day divided in 2 doses.
Dose can be increased by 1000 mg/day every 2 weeks up to a maximum total dose of 3000 mg/day.
4. Lacosamide
Non-emergent administration:
No loading dose. Maintenance dose 200-400 mg/day IV divided in 2 doses. Infused over 30-60 min.
