Posterolateral column syndrome
Causes
- Vitamin B12 deficiency (subacute combined degeneration)
- Nitrous oxide associated
- Malnourishment, strict veganism, metformin use, HIV-associated, multiple myeloma-associated
- Copper deficiency myelopathy
- AIDS myelopathy
- Spinal cord compression (eg from cervical spondylosis)
- HTLV-1 associated myelopathy (tropical spastic paraparesis)
Clinical presentation
- Impaired proprioception and vibration perception
- Sensory ataxia with positive Romberg sign
- Intact pain and temperature perception
- Bladder atony may exist
