Causes

  • Spinal muscular atrophies (SMA types I-IV)
  • Kennedy syndrome
  • Hirayama disease
  • Tangier disease
  • Hexosaminidase deficiency
  • Poliomyelitis and post-polio syndrome
  • Flail arm/leg variants of motor neuron disease
  • Postradiation syndrome

Clinical presentation

  • Flaccid weakness with LMN motor signs, reduced muscle tone, fasciculations and atrophy in affected segments
