Thoracodorsal nerve lesions
Causes
- Lesion of posterior cord or proximal brachial plexus.
- Isolated neuropathy has been reported in body builders.
Symptoms & signs
- Weakness and atrophy of latissimus dorsi.
- Weakness in arm adduction, shoulder depression and internal rotation.
Examination
- Test latissimus dorsi strength: With the patient seated, hold the patient’s arm above the elbow and apply resistance in the direction of flexion and adduction. Ask them to try to reach the opposite buttock behind their back.
