Tarsal tunnel syndrome

Causes

  • Compression of tibial nerve in the tarsal tunnel, most commonly by trauma or inflammation.

Symptoms & signs

  • Weakness and atrophy of foot intrinsic muscles.
  • Pain, paresthesias and sensory loss in any or all of: heel (calcaneal nerve), medial sole (medial plantar nerve), lateral sole (lateral plantar nerve).
  • Symptoms are typically exacerbated by activity and relieved at rest.
