Tarsal tunnel syndrome
Causes
- Compression of tibial nerve in the tarsal tunnel, most commonly by trauma or inflammation.
Symptoms & signs
- Weakness and atrophy of foot intrinsic muscles.
- Pain, paresthesias and sensory loss in any or all of: heel (calcaneal nerve), medial sole (medial plantar nerve), lateral sole (lateral plantar nerve).
- Symptoms are typically exacerbated by activity and relieved at rest.
