Piriformis syndrome

Causes

  • Compression of sciatic nerve as it passes under piriformis muscle.

Symptoms & signs

  • Weakness in knee flexors, ankle flexors or extensors and foot intrinsics. Any or all muscles may be affected.
  • Pain, paresthesia and sensory deficit may involve any part or all of the foot.
  • Syndrome may mimic lumbosacral radiculopathy.
